Reciprocating EnGen (SPL)

Reciprocating Engine - Generator, Electrical Power To Sound Pressure (dBA) Estimator

Sound proofing noise reduction noise pollution

Disclaimer

The following is a rudimentary procedure for approximating mechanical noise in dBA at distance of one (1) meter (3.281 feet) for electrical generators driven by diesel fueled reciprocating engines (EnGen).  The EnGen computer model assumes an integral radiator/fan cooling system, 1800 RPM, turbocharger, inlet air filter/silencer, basic weather enclosure without acoustic treatment and infinite manifold exhaust gas muffler.  The EnGen computer model DOES NOT normalize for fuel other than diesel, block shape, piston quantity, RPM nor base mounting.  When possible, the EnGen manufacturer should be consulted for empirical acoustic test data on the specific EnGen model and configuration. For a more detailed EnGen computer simulation, contact an EAI Application Engineer for assistance.

To project approximated EnGen levels to a distance other than the simulated one (1) meter, use the "Noise Divergence" calculator provided within this interactive web site.
