The following is a rudimentary procedure for calculating the
reduction or increase of sound (noise) during propagation outdoors (free field)
in order to predict the intensity levels of environmental noise
at a projected distance from a variety of point sources. The user is herein
advised that acoustic projections in intimate proximity to a noise source have
extreme non-linearity inherent with near field measurements. Also, this
hemispherical divergence calculation DOES NOT include corrections for
atmospheric conditions, source size, topographical effects, reflections nor screening by
obstacles. For a more precise estimate of acoustic intensity levels with a
change of distance, a qualified acoustician should be consulted.
Engineered Aeroacoustics, Inc. shall not be held liable for
any erroneous interpretations of the data.
